The desire to produce this new product presented us with significant design and production challenges and obstacles.
Certainly because we insisted on respecting some basic characteristics.
These difficulties stimulated us to continue.
The characteristics to respect were, indeed still are, very simple.
 
The most important one being the desire to respect the shape and dimensions of all visible and non-visible parts.
It is absolutely forbidden to make inappropriate modifications to the original parts in order to apply it.
This support is entirely machined from solid. Not like many other models that flaunt this
characteristic, then include a rear shimming washer in the assembly kit, to bring
the support plate into contact with the original resting surface, which is lower than
the other three anchor points.
In our system, the shim is machined from solid by milling the other parts, so that
the necessary thickness can be created by difference to level the assembly and support of the entire system.
To avoid modifications to the external aesthetic parts, we had to move the lever's center
to the right by 1.2 cm. This causes a very slight misalignment of the lever.
The owner of an Abarth (like others, after all) does not want to "ruin" or "distort" the shapes of his
little jewel (even if some people give little importance to details).
We have seen cases where, in order to mount the short-throw gear lever turret, it was necessary to cut the
underlying console to avoid interference with the travel of the joints connecting the cables to the lever.
 
Other situations where the upper part with the entire leather gaiter must be removed, giving a simple
cover plate; removing, in addition to originality, the appearance and the sense of warmth that leather provides.
 
Without going into detail about the various cases, we wanted a product that would shorten the throws of the
front and lateral engagements, without having to modify any of the original aesthetics.
 
We succeeded.
The result: decidedly positive:
Forward and backward throw:
In position number 1 = 7.9 cm
In position number 2 = 6.2 cm
Lateral throw = 5 cm
Lower console, cover, leather gaiter, knob and all the rest will remain original without
any modifications to be made. (if you deem it appropriate)
 
Assembly exactly like the original, so the connecting joints between the cables and the
turret always remain the original ones, which in our opinion, compared to other choices (uniball, spherical
heads, etc. that require lubrication, under penalty of premature wear) are the most appropriate.
No maintenance and limited play, even over time.
 

All lever movements for engagements are ensured by a large aluminum sphere and
enclosed between two half-shells of a special self-lubricating thermoplastic, which envelops the sphere 360
degrees, preventing play in all directions.
 
The replacement of the new turret with the original turret is completely reversible and leaves
no trace. It is always possible to return to the original situation.
 
In conclusion, you will have understood that we are not talking about the classic gadget or spare part that, once
applied, we forget after a few days.
We are talking about a product that will give you different and more satisfying driving sensations.
