The locking percentage under acceleration is \u003cstrong\u003eapproximately 35%\u003c\/strong\u003e. So, as shown in the figure, if 100 (the units are entirely arbitrary) is the input torque to the differential, a torque of 50 will end up on each wheel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"schedatesto\"\u003eHowever, there is another important parameter to consider: the grip of the tires on the ground. In fact, torque can be \"discharged\" to the ground up to the \u003cstrong\u003elimit of adhesion\u003c\/strong\u003e of the wheel; this limit is therefore proportional to the fraction of load acting on the wheel and to the coefficient of adhesion, which mainly depends on the consistency of the ground.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan class=\"schedatesto\"\u003eSo, if one of the two front wheels ends up in an area with reduced grip (for example, on slippery asphalt), the torque that can be discharged to the ground by that wheel is reduced, since the wheel itself reaches the slipping condition. And therefore, the total traction of the front axle is reduced to a value of 60, significantly lower than the 100 in the previous example.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"schedatesto\"\u003eIf we install the \u003cstrong\u003ePrometeo limited-slip differential\u003c\/strong\u003e instead of the normal differential, traction improves in these cases.
